Multivitamins - How Effective Are Multivitamins?

The doctors and nutritionists recommend making up for our daily vitamin needs by eating fruits, vegetables and diet rich in vitamins. A proper balanced diet can provide the vitamins one needs for a healthy body. However, most of us do not eat a balanced diet and therefore lack at least a few vitamins. An extreme vitamin deficiency leads to diseases and ailments that can be easily avoided. For example, a deficiency in vitamin D, which our body can produce easily when exposed to sunlight, can cause pain in the joints. Therefore, it is important to ensure that we have all the vitamins needed, as part of our daily diets.

Instead of eating all kinds of foods, the health industry has introduced using multi-vitamin tablets to supplement our daily diets. These multivitamin tablets contain all the vitamins an adult body needs. One tablet a day can provide for the daily dose of the vitamin the body needs.

The question is: Do multivitamins really provide the vitamins we need, as is normally advertised? Even though what many in the health industry say, there have been studies done to prove that a multivitamin tablet or two a day may not be sufficient to provide the daily vitamin dosage. This is party due to the fact that the body does not absorb everything that is in a tablet and hence it does not get its daily dosage. The vitamins are best absorbed from natural fruits and vegetables.

If you use a well balanced diet, you may not need to supplement that with any additional multivitamins.
What do you think? Do you use multivitamins daily? What is your experience with using multivitamins?
